Civil Discourse Project
The University of Washington Civil Discourse Project (CDP) is a student‑led collaboration between the Brotherhood Initiative (BI) and Sisterhood Initiative (SI) that was implemented during the 2024-25 academic year. The project engaged undergraduate leaders in a year‑long investigation of how students, particularly students of color, experience dialogue on a large public campus, with the goal of using these insights to strengthen, expand, and encourage more meaningful discourse across the university community. Institutional Collaboration: UW Global

As part of our strategic goal to improve the UW’s collective capacity to engage and support students from a wide range of backgrounds, we are partnering with other units to examine and enhance their work. In collaboration with UW Study Abroad, the BI research team developed the Resources for Identity Abroad (RIA) Toolkit as a resource for study abroad program directors. The toolkit is designed to assist faculty in generating discussion and reflection during pre-travel orientation that will support their students in navigating identity abroad.
