Brotherhood Initiative
Student Experience
BI students & staff at a UW Husky Game
Building Community Outside the Classroom
The Brotherhood Initiative prides itself on building community both inside and outside the classroom. Through activities including monthly cohort lunches, intramural sports, game/movie nights, networking events and much more, cohort members develop a sense of belonging that’s unique to the BI student experience. As a BI freshman, your fellow BI members are more than acquaintances who sit next to you during a lecture; they are your brothers, even after your time at the UW.
BI Scholar Retreats
The BI retreat, a BI freshman event every fall quarter, breaks the ice as members take a break away from the campus and participate in team building activities with the peer mentors. Whether it is playing basketball, singing campfire songs, or competing in guess the song, you can count on making friends. In addition to this, the BI retreat allows BI members to establish deeper connections with their peer mentors and BI staff.
BI Talent Show
The BI hosts an annual talent show for our members to show off their hidden talents. Singing? Check. Piano playing? Check. 1000 pushups? Not exactly… but members can show up to watch or participate in the talent show each spring.
BI Socials
A home away from home, the BI building serves as a hub for BI members to unwind from classes, game out, and eat some good food during our quarterly social events! At BI socials you can expect the sounds of controller button pressing, debates on a favorite anime, rants about sports teams, and much more.
Every quarter, alongside our BI socials, there is bowling night! Are you a professional bowler or pool player? Well, you might want to look somewhere else. However, our BI members know how to have a good time when they visit the UW’s Hub activities center. Pizza provided.
Career Development
Throughout the year, the BI connects scholars with industry professionals through field trips, networking events, and more. This past spring, BI members visited the Amazon Skills Center in Seattle, where they learned about work, internship, and career development opportunities. This trip is one of several events we host for our scholars every quarter.
