Recognized as a Costco Diversity Scholar and a Go! Scholar, Kimiam Waters is a Public Health major that is involved in Alpha Phi Omega (service fraternity) and MAPS. He works as a writing tutor at the UW Instructional Center and is involved in HIV research.
Steffan Ortega is a Community, Environment, and Planning (CEP) major involved with the Brotherhood Initiative as its media intern, a position that involves managing the BI’s online activities – including steamlining the website, updating social media pages, and producing promotional content. He is interested in urban design and Geographic Information Systems.
D’Andre Garcia-Stubbs is the Chapter President of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Vice President of NPHC, Student Ambassador for Teach For America (TFA), and is currently running for Vice President of ASUW. He has been awarded the Merit Scholar Scholarship (2019), the Del Rio Global Scholar (2018), and the Purpose Foundation Scholarship (2019). After graduation, he hopes to continue working for TFA in Phoenix, AZ.
ASUW elections encourage voting and civic engagement on campus, while also giving students the opportunity to demonstrate and refine their leadership abilities. Voting for this year’s election ends tonight (5/15) at 11:45pm. We at the BI are rooting for our very own, D’andre Garcia-Stubbs. His action items include increasing additional Husky Leadership opportunities, providing transfer students with appropriate information, and ensuring RSOs have sufficient resources.

We at the BI are proud to recognize Caleb Yates for being awarded the Robert T. and Nancy J. Wright Scholar Scholarship! Caleb is an Astronomy and Applied Physics major that hopes to pursue a Ph.D. in astronomy or physics and one day work for a private space company. Congratulations!
